Dr. Burcu Beykal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and a resident faculty in the Center for Clean Energy Engineering and Institute of Material Science at the University of Connecticut. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Koc University, a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University. During her doctoral and postdoctoral studies, she worked under the guidance of Professor Stratos Pistikopoulos on data analytics and data-driven modeling and optimization of chemical, environmental, and biological systems.
Prof. Beykal is recognized by numerous awards and honors throughout her academic career. She received back-to-back 8 Vehbi Koc Honor Awards in 2009-2013 from Koc University and was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship by the Turkish Fulbright Commission in 2012. In 2019, she received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award by the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University and was selected as a Rising Star in Chemical Engineering by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was also featured in the NIEHS Superfund Research Program e-Posted Notes for her role in the Data Science Core of the Texas A&M Superfund Research Center. Prof. Beykal also received the CAST Directors' Award from the Computing and Systems Technology Division of AIChE in 2020 and the ACS Petroleum Research Fund Doctoral New Investigator Award in 2023. Most recently, Prof. Beykal is recognized for her exceptional scholarly achievements as a young faculty and appointed as the Eversource Energy Assistant Professor in Environmental and Sustainability Education in May 2025 by the UConn College of Engineering.
